harassment and violence prevention training
Thanks to a grant from ESDC and other partner organizations, CommeHome Social Services has develop tools and resources to prevent harassment and violence in the banking and Uranium mining and processing industries[1]. The tools and resources will help employers in the banking and Uranium and mining industries comply with Bill C-65 legislation which contains measures to protect employees from harassment and violence in federally regulated workplaces.
As you may recall, Bill C-65, the Act to amend the Canada Labour Code, received Royal Assent in October 2018. The amendments to the Canada Labour Code came into force on January 1st, 2021, alongside the new Work Place Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations.
To support Bill-C-65 and the new provisions in the Canada Labour Code part II, CommeHome has developed multiple resources on harassment and violence prevention for use in the banking and Uranium mining and processing industries including:
- an App that will enable employees (victims) and bystanders easily report events of harassment and violence;
- self-paced virtual training courses for employees, managers, and supervisors;
- self-paced bystander intervention virtual training;
- self-paced virtual sexual harassment training, as well as other resources that will foster positive workplace culture.
These courses are tailored to:
- increase employee knowledge on workplace harassment and violence;
- assist employees in becoming familiar with available tools/resources for preventing harassment and violence in the workplace;
- enhance staff knowledge on the process that can be used to report an occurrence of workplace harassment and violence;
- increase staff understanding and awareness of the resolution process involving events of workplace harassment and violence.
Through our training, employers will also become aware of their duties and responsibilities as outlined in subsection 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 30, 31, 35, 36 and 37 of the Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations.
Also, the self-paced bystander intervention training will expose staff to real-life examples and practical applications of the concept of the 5Ds (Distract, (Be) Direct, Delegate, Delay and Disapprove) with the goal of instilling a respectful work environment, where everyone is equipped with a sense of responsibility and accountability and where everyone feels empowered to speak up against inappropriate behaviors.
To make it easier for victims and bystanders to report events of harassment and violence in the workplace, we have developed an app called “CryOUT” app, which allows for real-time reporting (notice of occurrence) of harassment/violence to employers.
Collectively the tools and resources developed by CommeHome will raise awareness on the prevention of harassment and violence in the workplace and help maintain a healthy, safe, and inclusive workplace where everyone is valued for their contributions, treated with respect, and supported.
At this time, we are enrolling employers in the Uranium industry for all our self-paced virtual training program.
Should you require more information, please kindly reach out to us and we will be happy to answer any question or address any concern you may have.
