About

CommeHome Social Services is a not-for-profit organization that is located in Casselman, Ontario. Our mission is to empower and contribute to improving the mental/social wellbeing of residents of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell with focus on those who identify as black. Given our virtual presence, we also provide services to black communities in Ottawa and surrounding neighborhood.

We offer a wide range of programs and services as highlighted below.

Mental Health

CommeHome Social Services provides timely, and culturally-responsive mental health services to meet the unfulfilled psychological challenges experienced by members (children, youths and adults) of our communities. As the needs and experiences of each individual is unique, so is our solutions and approaches.

Parenting education programs

Our family and parenting programs are tailored towards strengthening families and spans the early days of conception through birth to the age of 10. We explore the latest advances in research and best practices in child development to assist parents in child upbringing.

 

Youth Programs

Youths represent the future, and they remain the at centre of our activities. At CommeHome Social Services we recognize the challenges faced by black and other invisible minority youths as well as the immense potential that can be harnessed during the youthful developmental stages of life.

 

Referral Program

CommeHome has established an extensive list of community resources and social support services that are available to residents in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, Ottawa and its surrounding communities. We recognized the fact that we may not be in position to resolve all psychosocial issues and as a result we have accumulated an extensive list of available community resources and are honored serve as the principal gateway for referrals for community-based supports services and other resources in the community.

Training Programs

We recognized the importance of training, sharing knowledge and transferring skills. We continuously develop training materials that would promote a thriving community. Our current training programs and workshops focussed on themes such as:
• trauma/depression and anxiety
• domestic violence,
• workplace violence and harassment,
• Financial education, entrepreneurship and retirement planning
• Youth leadership, violence, abuse and prevention
• Evidence-based parenting

Settlement & Integration

We assist newly arrived immigrants and refugees settle and adapt in Ottawa and it surrounding communities including Prescott and Russell. Our settlement and integration programs include: 

  • General orientation
  • Counselling
  • Assistance with finding schools for your children
  • Assistance with finding housing and childcare services;
  • Referral services
  • Links to community resources
